Community Outreach
Y.E.A.H’s materials and approaches are designed to
reinforce factors that protect young people’s health;
challenge negative social norms and mobilize communities
and individuals to take action. A number of participatory
materials have been produced for the Something for Something
Love Campaign which address transactional sex and the Be
a Man Campaign which is designed to challenge negative male
gender norms.
Y.E.A.H uses a highly participatory strategic design process
to develop all of its materials. This process ensures that
the materials are based on research findings relevant to
Uganda; are designed by and for young people and the people
who impact young people’s health; that they are pre-tested
and adequately evaluated for impact.
Most materials are produced in several local languages
to ensure that they are useful to communities throughout
Uganda. Read more about
the participatory materials produced
for each of the campaigns.
Training
Y.E.A.H’s training team consists
of a Training & Community Outreach Manager and a Training
Coordinator who are responsible for training and updating
a core team of lead trainers located in Kampala and throughout
the 4 regions. The Y.E.A.H training team is responsible
for conducting initial training of trainers; annual training
updates; and supportive supervision for all lead trainers.
The Y.E.A.H. training team also follows up trainers trained
by the lead trainers to assess the effectiveness of training.
Every year, Y.E.A.H develops a training work plan that indicates
the number of people and organizations to be trained. Y.E.A.H
also provides training upon request throughout the year.
